Why is it ok to wear a bikini in public but not bra and panties ?

Usually the bikini covers up less space and is even tighter fitted.The only difference is the material and design. ( I guess you could even have a completely white bikini that looked like underwear.)
girls I need your help on this one. How would u feel at the beach wearing only underwear instead of a bikini?

because bikinis are made for public beaches and pools and things like that. bras and panties are called “underwear” for a reason. and the material is different and thinner. most bikinis are made to look cuute and flirty without being too risque
bras and panties are different, becase you wouldnt let and random guy on tha beach watch you walk around in one, but a bikini is a different story..
because bikinis re made for the beah but panties and bras are not suitable for the sea

personally i don’t think that bikini’s are sexy or classy at all. i have a nice curvy body and i like tankinis. this is my personal opinion but i think women look SEXIER when they show a little less skin
my b/friend goes nuts over using his imagination. he says girls look sexier in tankinis.
Well bikinis are usually only worn at beaches.
My friend wears a bra instead of a bikini top to beaches to tan.

Because society is wired that way. even though they are similar garments that cover pretty much the same amount of skin, people associate underwear with nakedness and something that is not to be shown to the world, and swimming attire with the beach or pool.
the only downside of wearing your underwear to the beach (besides the stares) is the material – swimwear is made to stay opaque when wet, not get damaged easily by salty water, and dries faster – your undies don’t do all that and they are built with support and comfort in mind, they would take super long to dry, and everyone would see your butt once you get wet lol
if you just want to sunbathe and don’t plan on getting wet, wear your undies if you wish and you will be perfectly fine – although people will look at you funny you are not doing anything illegal or wrong :]
i personally wouldn’t wear my lingerie to the beach, not because i would care what others think , but because it would get ruined. however in my youth, when i didn’t spend tons of money on lingerie, i couldn’t care less. in HS we all used to go to the beach after school and just wear our undies if we hadn’t brought bikinis.
Simply, because American society says so. Most other places in the world wouldn’t care at all what you wear to the beach, if anything at all.
That is actually a very good question ! I have often wondered that myself.. i suppose there isn’t really any difference between underwear and a bikini.. apart from the obvious fact that bikinis are waterproof (duh haha).. some bikinis actually look identical to a matching bra and nicker set.. so yeah.. i guess i don’t really know why either :l x
